Welcome to Bloomstead Farms
where every petal tells a story of transformation and resilience.
In the rugged landscape of Del Norte, Colorado, Gary and Jody Seger saw opportunity where others saw only rocky terrain. Nestled at the foot of the San Juan Mountain Range, their land, affectionately dubbed 'Baltic Avenue', seemed like an unlikely place to start a farm. Yet, with three young sons in tow and a fourth on the horizon, the Segers embarked on a journey of cultivation that would span generations.
In 1997, their son Matt and his wife Wendi purchased a piece of the land, building their home amidst the challenges of the land. With a knack for machinery and a determination to overcome obstacles, Matt with sons Wes and Cole began the arduous task of clearing rocks from the fields. To date, they've unearthed an astonishing 39,000 tons, a testament to their perseverance and dedication.
As the land yielded to their efforts, potatoes became a staple crop, but it was a chance encounter with dahlias that truly sparked a transformation. Inspired by the tubers' potential, Matt and Wendi took a leap of faith, planting their first 400 tubers. What followed was a journey of discovery, as they learned the intricacies of dahlia cultivation and witnessed the breathtaking beauty that bloomed from their labor.
Today, as the sun sets over Bloomstead Farms, the once-rocky landscape is awash in color and life. What was once dismissed as 'Baltic Avenue' has become a testament to the power of vision and perseverance. Guided by Gary and Jody’s wisdom and fueled by the collective passion of the Segers and their family, Bloomstead Farms stands as a testament to the belief that beauty can flourish in even the most unlikely of places.
